FISHING EQUIPMENT PACKING LIST
Three lightweight fly-fishing or spinning rods and reels for trout, grayling and other under 20 inch fish.
Three fishing rods that will work for average kings or smaller fish, 8’6”, 8-20 pound test rated.
Three fishing reels to match the 8-20 pound rated fishing rods.
Three fishing rods that will work for large kings, or kings in fast water, 8’6”, 15-30 pound test rated.
Three fishing reels to match the 3 heavier duty rods.
~200 size 4 octopus hooks.
~100 size 1/0 octopus hooks.
~50 size 3/0 octopus hooks.
~5 feet of colored yarn – be sure to include the basic colors of black, white, orange, chartreuse, and pinks.
~100 Lil’ Corkies in sizes 8 and 10 that will float the 1/0 and size 4 hooks. You may also take some size 6 Lil’ Corkies to float 3/0 hooks. Be sure to include the basic colors of black, white, orange, chartreuse, and pinks. We find corkies in sizes of 6, 8 and 10 to be adequate for the various water conditions.
~200 size 3 snap swivels.
~8 pounds of pencil lead (also known as lead wire).
~500 yards each of 15 and 30 pound test line.
~50 yards each of 15, 20, and 30 pound test fluorocarbon line to use as leader.
Spare spools to put line on if you take line off your reel to switch to another line, and rubber bands to help control the line on the various spools.
Tackle boxes for each fisherman to allow convenient fishing in different areas.
Lead punch for prepping pencil lead for snap swivels.
10 Kwikfish, size #014 (K14) with three bead chain swivel hook extensions and circle attachments.
Size 1 and 2 spinners for trout and grayling.
Small Black Flies - A must for Alaska Fishing. Wet flies of various sizes and colors, but be sure to have an adequate supply of small, black streamer flies and other dark colored patterns. Size 6 or slightly smaller will allow a cross-use of the flies for kings and other fish.
