CLOTHES PACKING LIST for an Alaska Fishing Trip
No matter what the 10 day forecast is calling for before you depart on your wilderness float trip, plan for the worst.
On a recent Alaska Adventure we learned something about clothes worth sharing. We had purchased Cabela's Guidewear shirts and pants. We purchased them for their quick dry properties and for the ability to zipper off the shirt sleeves and pant legs. Soon after landing in a mosquitoe infested area, we learned that the mosquitoes could not bite through these clothes! This discovery saved us considerable deet on the trip because we only needed it for our hands and face rather than needing to also spray down our clothes.
Rain gear – take quality rain gear that is durable and comfortable.
Waders – it is advisable to take either waist or chest waders to serve multiple purposes of fishing, rafting, and rain gear. Breathable waders would be our first choice as neoprene waders can be too warm and bulky for the conditions.
Undergarments/socks – enough to change as often as you like during the time you are out.
Long underwear top and bottoms such as polar fleece, polar tech, or similar.
Two or three long sleeve quick drying material shirts.
Two or three short sleeve quick drying shirts.
Either polar fleece or a wool sweater.
Wind jacket with hood.
Two or three pairs of quick drying pants with zipper legs that quickly convert to shorts.
Footwear – one pair of good quality wading shoes/teva-style sandals and one pair of hiking boots.
One ball cap; one warm pullover; bug proof head net, gloves and Polarized Sunglasses.
